Members of the book club at Denver’s University Club welcomed Donna at the opening of their 2018-19 reading season with a discussion of Home of the Brave.

September 22, 2018

Donna joined filmmaker Miles Lagoze for a panel discussion about telling war stories as part of the DocuWest Film and Music Festival. Lagoze, a former a combat cameraman in Afghanistan, used his and others’ footage to create the documentary “Combat Obscura,” which was screened before the panel discussion.

Donna joined poets Rocky Rhoads and Norma Johnson and memoirists Martha M. Urioste and Delta Donohue in an evening of readings curated by Dr. Marilyn Hosea, a Regis University professor. The selections explored how to settle into yourself and your surroundings and make others feel empowered and welcome.

Donna presented alongside 9News reporter Anastasiya Bolton to a committee preparing to commemorate the Junior League of Denver’s 100th anniversary. Committee members writing a League history wanted tips on interviewing and storytelling.

Donna took questions from an Afghan national security adviser, an Argentinian customs official, an Egyptian think tank researcher, an Ethiopian mayor, an Israeli open records campaigner and a Nepali development worker.

Donna joined a panel discussion with Denverite editor Dave Burdick, Westword co-founder Patti Calhoun and KGNU news director Maeve Conran, discussing what the Denver Post has called "a crisis in community journalism." It was part of an episode of Dat-Mocracy Tho! a new live television show and podcast.
